Welcome to Travel Wows!

Whether traveling across the globe or to the next town over, the adventure of exploration and

new experiences has always wowed me. The idea behind this blog is to share these experiences with other like-minded wanders, to provide tips and insights for getting the most out of your next trip, and to inspire others to find their travel wows.

Everything in this blog is about maximizing and finding real and accessible experiences. It's about collecting those memories that will be with you for a lifetime. I'm not a trust-fund baby, but I do build a travel budget that will definitely include some splurging experiences from time to time. But I'm also all about free or inexpensive activities, so long as the maximize the experience. Saving 50 cents on a beer doesn't excite me if it means by-passing that amazing pub with the atmosphere that will make that beer all the more enjoyable.

It's about balance. If your heart is set on a 5-star dinner, that doesn't mean you have to eat crackers for the rest of the trip. It just means you need to figure out what the stellar cheap lunch options are. Some of the best meals I've had cost less than $5.00. You don't have to cheat yourself in order to treat yourself later. The more you know, the more options you have, the more comfortable you are with tossing all that out the window at the last minute if something else comes along, the better placed you'll be to be wowed.

You'll likely notice that while the stories on this blog will span the globe, there will be a particularly large number of posts dedicated to Washington, DC. I moved to "the District" in 2003 and I fell in love with the city almost immediately. There is so much to do and see in DC (much of

it for free!) that anyone who claims to be bored is trying to be bored. History, music, theater, museums, monuments, world-class dining, outdoor adventures, and cultural events are just some of the things available in the greater Washington area. Yet, I've always been a bit surprised by how few people recognize it. So, this blog will strive to rectify that by bringing the wows of DC to the world. Whether you live in DC or are planning a trip here, stay tuned to this blog for regular inspiration for your next activity.

If the idea of this blog appeals to you, consider subscribing to Travel Wows for email updates of each new posting. Or just check back and scroll through the latest articles. Cheers!

Tim
